A food products company in Quebec, Canada uses iris type dampers to control the flow of air into fluidized bed product dryers. This equipment was originally supplied with now obsolete analog positioners, replaced with a digital piezo valve positioner. Product quality suffered due to instability of the system as a whole. The positioners were working overtime, noisy, and failed prematurely.
